All about online Ceramic Bearings

It is known that there are various bearing materials like ceramic balls. Different types of materials have different functions, advantages, and disadvantages. For producing bearing products steel is the main kind of material that is used. But, this material cannot be performed well in some environments.

Ceramic materials have many specific advantages compared to steel. They provide higher dimensional stability, and lower density, superior corrosion and heat resistance, which facilitate high speed. In heat and corrosion resistance ceramics are superior to steel and are lightweight and extremely hard as well.

Similarly, ceramic rolling bearings can be used in environments where conventional steel bearings cannot. Hence, the superiority of these bearings makes it possible that they can be applied in some special environments.

Firstly, it can be used in corrosive environments. Hybrid and all ceramic ball bearings lasted three and twenty times longer respectively compared to stainless steel bearings. It is presumed that water readily adheres to silicon nitride and results in the formation of a better lubrication film, leading to extended bearing life.

Secondly, it can be performed in corrosive agents. Usually, silicon nitride has excellent corrosion resistance. However, depending on the type and quantity of sintering additives corrosion resistance varies, and certain corrosive agents decrease in hardness and flexural strength. In such type of situation, it is can be proved that the carbide-based ceramic bearings are the most effective.

Thirdly, it can be used in a high-temperature vacuum. In a high-temperature vacuum environment, all-silicon nitride ball bearing with a self-lubricating laminated cage and with MoS2-coated rings and balls proved superior in durability. Compared with the hybrid bearings, in both dynamic frictional torque and life, the all-ceramic the bearing was superior.

Fourthly, with poor lubrication, they can be performed. As ceramic hybrid bearings have outstanding wear resistance and are extremely hard, in bearing life without lubrication they outperform other materials.

According to a test, within a short period, the steel bearing seized whereas the hybrid and all-ceramic bearings, though sustaining wear, did not. Compared to the hybrid bearing the all-ceramic bearing sustained considerably less, indicating that its endurance life is much longer.
